Waitrose Gets on Board with World Fisheries Congress!

Leading food retailer, Waitrose, has announced that it will sponsor this year’s World Fisheries Congress (WFC) in May 2012, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The WFC, taking place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre from 7-11 May 2012, addresses the important topic of “Sustainable Fisheries in a Changing World”, and will examine the science that underpins sustainable fishing; adaptive management and tools to cope with changing environments; the social and economic cost of failure; and meeting increasing food and nutrition needs through cultivation.

Quentin Clark, Head of Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing for Waitrose said how pleased they were to support the World Fisheries Congress: “As a leading retailer of sustainably sourced fish – both wild and farmed – we have a long standing commitment to ensuring that the world’s fish stocks are properly protected for future generations to enjoy. With so many species under pressure, or on the brink of extinction, the issues we face as retailers, producers and suppliers have never been more urgent.”
